Join us for a discussion between Turner Prize 2025 nominee Zadie Xa and writer, curator and previous Turner Prize juror Jennifer Higgie.

Together they will reflect on Zadie’s practice as well as her Turner Prize 2025 exhibition Moonlit Confessions Across Deep Sea Echoes: Your Ancestors Are Whales, and Earth Remembers Everything at Cartwright Hall.

Bios

Zadie Xa was born in Vancouver, Canada and lives and works in London. She creates installations using painting, sound, textiles and sculpture. These immersive environments are conjured from a wide range of sources and research interests, including ancestry, Korean mythology and folklore, as well as natural and supernatural worlds. She is nominated for the Turner Prize for her solo presentation Moonlit Confessions Across Deep Sea Echoes: Your Ancestors Are Whales, an Earth Remembers Everything at Sharjah Biennial 16, United Arab Emirates.

Jennifer Higgie is an Australian writer who lives in London. Her novel Bedlam will be published in the UK and US in 2026. Her recent books include The Other Side: A Story of Women, Art and the Spirit World (2023) and The Mirror and the Palette: Rebellion, Revolution and Resilience: 500 Years of women's self- portraits (2021). Jennifer is the host of the National Gallery of Australia’s podcast, Artist’s Artists. Her five-part essay for BBC Radio 3, Artists and the Spirit World, is available on BBC iPlayer.
