The Tetley x Tower Works: Public Art Proposals for Leeds’ South Bank

  • 3 Mar – 7 May 2023
  • 9am–7pm
  • Mustard Wharf, Wharf Approach, Holbeck, Leeds LS1 4EY
  • Free entry

The Tetley and Legal & General present four proposals for a new public artwork for Leeds’ South Bank, in conjunction with Tower Works, the new home of Mustard Wharf.

Following an open call, four artists – Phill Hopkins, Benaiah Matheson, Yelena Popova and Zoë Power – have been shortlisted to develop an artwork for a large wall measuring 300 square metres on the south west face of the Mustard Wharf building, which sits within the Tower Works community.

The chosen artwork will be unveiled in summer 2023.

Learn more about the artists

Each artist’s proposal draws from the unique history of the site to create a response and potential contribution to the location. Tower Works has a rich heritage, being the location of a former factory founded by T. R. Harding which manufactured steel pins for Yorkshire’s textile industry. Three listed redbrick towers are retained as Leeds heritage landmarks within the development, making it an iconic destination for all.

The Tetley and Legal & General want a public artwork that new Tower Works residents will fall in love with and that becomes a lasting symbol in a new community of almost 500 homes in a well-known and much-loved part of Leeds.
