Join us for our February art and play half term sessions at Rowland Road Play Patch—a vibrant, community-led project transforming an unused space near Rowland Road WMC into a welcoming green play area for families.
Designed for children aged 5 – 11, these free outdoor sessions offer a fun mix of art, play, and nature exploration. Led by Yorkshire Contemporary in collaboration with artist and den-building expert Chris Harman and artist Hannah Tolson, each session is hands-on, engaging, and packed with creativity.
Den Building & Nature Fun
Back by popular demand, Chris Harman will guide children in exciting den-building activities, inspiring outdoor play and creativity.
Bug & Nature Inspired Art
Help us shape the next phase of the Rowland Road Play Patch by creating fun, colorful signage! With guidance from Hannah Tolson, children can paint, collage, and color to design unique, nature-inspired artwork featuring bugs and local wildlife.

Practical Information
- Activities: Free art, craft and den building activities, no booking required, just drop in.
- Drop-In: Sessions are open access; children can come and go as they please. Parents remain responsible for their children at all times.
- Outdoor: All activities take place inside and outside—dress for the weather!
- Messy Fun: Children may use tools, paint, or other materials. Best not to wear your finest clothes.
- Refreshments (tea, coffee, juice will be available)
- Accessibility: If your child has access needs, please get in touch in advance so we can make arrangements.

About the Artists
Chris Harman
Christ is an Artist, educator and den-building expert, well experienced in using everyday, found objects and experimenting with sculpture. Passionate about communities, his work so far can be seen at the Rowland Road Play Patch including a fire pit area, a compost store and a fun communication system made out of tubing. Working with Chris againn will help to continue to transform the Rowland Road Play Patch into a nature themed, free adventure play area for the whole community.

Hannah Tolson
Hannah is an artist and children’s books illustrator from West Yorkshire, currently based in Stockport. She has previously studied at Leeds College of Art and Falmouth University, gaining her degree in Illustration in 2013. She has since worked with a variety of publishers worldwide. Her whimsical, colorful, and folk-inspired art style, combined with these sessions within the community, will help to create engaging and fun signage for Rowland Road Play Patch, giving it a distinct and vibrant visual identity for the whole community to be proud of. www.Hannahtolson.com
