Whilst our search for a permanent new home continues, we’re thrilled that artist Stephanie Jefferies’ beloved play space will have a place in the city centre.
Featuring a slide, a den, tactile objects and a bespoke sound installation, the artist uses play and contemporary art to create an alternative to commercial spaces for children and their families. The space is ideal for under 5s.
Bryony Bond, Director of Yorkshire Contemporary:
‘Our mission as a charity is all about providing opportunities for people to be creative. We’re thrilled that the now Tiny Totley Studio can re-open in Leeds city centre and continue to make space for families to play in a unique, artist-designed environment.
Yorkshire Contemporary commissioned artist Stephanie Jefferies to create the play space in response to the lack of free to use, family friendly spaces in the city centre and it’s fantastic that this offer can continue beyond our life in The Tetley building.
This new partnership is just one of the ways we’re continuing our commitment to our charitable mission as Yorkshire Contemporary.’
Tiny Tetley Studio opened in February 2022 and was visited by more than 15,000 families before The Tetley closed as a contemporary art gallery in December 2023.
The new play space will open from Friday 12 July 2024.
The space will be free to use and open at the same time as the library:
Monday – Thursday 9am–8pm
Friday 9am–5pm
Saturday 10am–4pm
Sunday Closed
Leeds Central Library is located at Calverley St, Leeds LS1 3AB.
Tiny Totley Studio is supported by Garfield Weston Foundation and National Lottery Awards for All
