A new public artwork for Leeds’ South Bank at Tower Works

Journal 25 Aug 2023

The Tetley and Legal & General are delighted to share the selected proposal for a new public artwork in Leeds’ South Bank by artist Zoë Power.

Zoë is a mural artist, painting community-focused artworks around the UK. Her distinctive style blends traditional painting techniques with punchy, graphic imagery.

Zoë’s proposal incorporates cogs from factory machines and patterns from woollen weaves, nodding to Leeds’ industrial past and referencing Tower Works’ previous connection to the wool comb industry. Amongst the cogs, clouds and patterns, a thread entwines two figures, representing connection and hope, merging the past with the present.

The artist said:

“I am absolutely delighted to have been selected. It’s a privilege to work in a city so rich in history and culture – I hope to add some beauty and wonder to the local area, creating a landmark that can be enjoyed for many years to come.”

The artwork was chosen from four proposals following an open call for submissions.

Set to be unveiled in autumn 2023, this new work will transform a large wall measuring 300 square metres on the south-west face of the Mustard Wharf building, which sits within the Tower Works community.
