Taking ingredients and bodies from his solo exhibition, Alpha Salad, this conversation between Fitzpatrick and writer Paul Clinton carries us through the intestinal gallery spaces.
We explore Fitzpatrick’s painting, sculpture and the unique pairings created with works from Leeds University Library Galleries and Special Collections, including photographs from the Leeds Archive of Vernacular Culture.

Vegetal Hand (2022) is loosely based on an 18th century ivory back scratcher, a very rudimentary prosthesis to extend the capacity of the body. Instead of the mutual reciprocity of ‘You scratch my back I scratch yours’ the object suggests the solitary need to self soothe.
